Free FOIA Officer training from TimberlakeSmith
All public bodies are now required by Virginia Code § 2.2-3704.2 to designate and publicly identify one or more FOIA officer(s). Each FOIA officer must be trained at least annually by legal counsel or the FOIA Advisory Council.
TimberlakeSmith’s education and local government attorneys are offering free FOIA training on Thursday, June 22, 2017, from 10 AM to 1 PM in the South Board Room at the Augusta County Government Center in Verona, Virginia.
The training will focus on both the “open records” and the “open meeting” provisions of FOIA, as well as provide an updated on recent changes to FOIA. In addition to meeting the training requirement for FOIA officers, the training will provide useful information, tips, and reminders to those new to FOIA responsibilities as well as to individuals familiar with the statutes.
We hope you will be able to send one or more of your FOIA officers to this free service we are providing to TimberlakeSmith clients and any other interested representatives of public bodies.
Please RSVP to Michelle Weaver at 540-885-1517 or michelle@timberlakesmith.com with the name(s) and contact information of each attendee you will be sending to the training.
