About Randy
Randy manages a hybrid practice area at TimberlakeSmith referred to as Transactional Litigation, which includes providing advice and representation in litigation to corporations, limited liability companies, and other business entities, as well as local governmental bodies and waste/wastewater authorities. Randy also handles complex litigation arising in the fields of Corporate and Business Law, Construction Law, and disputes related to real property (real estate, easements, partition suits), will contests, insurance coverage, workers compensation, and legal malpractice. He is a former President of TimberlakeSmith.
He leads the firm’s appellate support practice, guiding his clients through the complicated and arduous appeals process, both in the federal and Virginia appellate courts. In every matter, Randy applies his customary detail-oriented and analytical skills, his proficiency for legal research, and his critical writing skills in the representation of his individual, business, and governmental clients.
Randy graduated from the University of Virginia in 1984 with a B.A. degree in history and sociology. After several years of working as a paralegal with the U.S. Department of Justice (Civil Division), Randy earned his J.D. degree in 1995 from George Mason University School of Law, where he received the American Jurisprudence Award for Trial Practice/Advocacy. While attending law school, Randy was very active in moot court competitions and honed his writing and editing skills by serving on both the George Mason Independent Law Review and the GMU Civil Rights Law Journal. He then gained a year of invaluable experience serving as a clerk for U.S. District Court Judge James H. Michael, Jr., before joining TimberlakeSmith in 1996. Randy became a partner in the firm in 2001 and has served on the Executive Committee from 2006 through 2021.
When not cheering for University of Virginia sports teams, Randy otherwise spends his free time with his family or enjoying the outdoors either by attending to the endless requirements of lawn maintenance or by hiking and camping in Shenandoah National Park.
